There's something in the atmosphere, slightly amiss, uncomfortable, and, in some cases, surprisingly alluring. In The pimp and his trophies, Antoinette Zwirchmayr redeploys narrative strategies and dialectical clichés as she revisits her complex childhood memories of being the granddaughter of Salzburg's most infamous pimp. Using photographs from her family's brothel and drawing upon other collected materials and testimony, Zwirchmayr creates striking 35mm images to represent her younger self's ambivalence about her grandfather's illicit activities.
